Avi & Nata. Praia Formosa, April 2026

Praia Formosa, 8pm, late April. The sun was already near the horizon when we started. We had 30 minutes.

Avi and Nata came from the US for a few days on the island. Short session, not much runway to ease into it.

They didn’t need easing in.

There are clients who take 20 minutes to stop thinking about the camera. These two never seemed to notice it was there. Avi kept looking at Nata the way people look when they’ve decided something. She had a ring on her finger and a way of smiling that didn’t need any direction from me.

We started on the rocks. Light coming in warm from the side. Then moved down to the waterline as the sky went pink.

The first 15 minutes were the golden stuff. The last 15 were better. By the time we were standing in the water barefoot on the dark stones, the sun was already gone and the sky had shifted to that flat pink that Madeira does in April. That’s usually when the frames I actually keep happen.

Their sincerity came through in everything. Not performed, not worked at. Just there. That’s what made the edit feel easy. The photos reflected the evening, and the evening was genuinely good.

At 9:24 that night, Avi opened the gallery. His first message back was one word.

DUDE.

Then: “These are phenomenal. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much.”

That kind of message lands differently when you know how the evening actually felt.
