Miradouro da Quinta do Lorde

A viewpoint above Quinta do Lorde marina at the eastern end of Madeira. The whole village sits below you. White houses with red-tile roofs, a small harbor, a lighthouse on the breakwater. The Atlantic and the Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula fill the distance.

The facades below face south, so late afternoon light hits them directly while the viewpoint itself stays comfortable. White walls and terracotta roofs pick up warmth in the last two hours before sunset, and the marina water goes from flat blue to something with colour in it. Earlier in the day the whole scene reads cooler and flatter.

Thirty-five minutes from Funchal on the eastern road. Short walk from where you park, easy ground, no climbing. It pairs naturally with Ponta de São Lourenço twenty minutes further on if you want two locations in one session, and with the drive out that way it makes more sense as an afternoon than a morning.
